Make a Lasting Difference: Join the Magnetawan Watershed Land Trust Board

Some of the most meaningful contributions we make begin with a simple decision: to give a little of our time to something we care about.

At the Magnetawan Watershed Land Trust (MWLT), volunteers help turn a shared love of nature into lasting protection for the places that make our watershed special. We are seeking new members for our volunteer Board of Directors, and we invite you to consider how your experience, ideas, and passion could help shape our future.

Why Volunteer? It Gives Back to You, Too

Volunteering is a chance to make a difference, but it can also bring a great deal to your own life. It creates opportunities to meet people who share your values, build friendships, learn new skills, and put existing talents to meaningful use.

Contributing to a cause you believe in can strengthen your sense of purpose and connection to your community. In conservation, there is something especially rewarding about knowing your efforts support a future that extends beyond your own lifetime.

Whether you enjoy collaborative planning, solving problems, or helping an organization grow, volunteering offers a way to turn those interests into something lasting.

A Lasting Difference for the Environment

Protecting nature takes more than good intentions. It requires thoughtful decisions, ongoing care, community support, and people willing to help.

MWLT works to increase the number of natural and ecologically significant spaces protected in perpetuity along the Magnetawan River watershed. Through securement, stewardship, education, and research, we help safeguard the landscapes and waterways that wildlife and communities depend on.

To date, MWLT has established eleven nature reserves, protecting over 400 hectares and almost 14,000 feet of shoreline.

Protecting natural spaces helps preserve wildlife habitat, support biodiversity, and maintain the natural functions of forests, wetlands, and shorelines. Volunteers help make this long-term conservation work possible, from guiding organizational decisions to caring for protected lands.

The People Behind the Progress

We are fortunate to have a wonderful team of volunteers who bring care, dedication, and a wide range of talents to MWLT.

Our board members contribute their time and expertise to guide the organization and support its long-term success. Our land stewards help care for the natural spaces entrusted to us, bringing commitment and attention to their ongoing protection.

Each role matters. Whether contributing around a board table or out on the land, our volunteers share a belief that these places are worth protecting. Their generosity and teamwork are at the heart of what we do, and we are deeply grateful for everything they give.

Could You Be Our Next Board Member?

Our volunteer Board of Directors plays a vital role in guiding MWLT’s mission and future direction.

We would particularly benefit from individuals who bring:

• Legal expertise

• Experience in fundraising and event planning

• Environmental science knowledge

• An Indigenous perspective on land use and stewardship

These are not requirements. Above all, we are looking for people who care about conservation and community, and who want to work collaboratively toward the long-term success of the land trust.

Your personal skills, professional experience, volunteer background, and willingness to contribute could make you a valuable addition to our team.
